Veteran Investigative Journalist Bill Conroy Joins Sibel Edmonds and Peter B. Collins. This is the third in a series of special podcasts introducing Newsbud, the new independent, publicly funded media outlet that will launch later this year. We start with reports on the tremendous response we’ve gotten so far, with more than 8,000 signups for email updates in less than 2 weeks.
Bill Conroy will be leading the investigative reporting at Newsbud, and he has more than 20 years of experience covering the drug war, corruption in government and law enforcement, and national security matters. Conroy talks about his work with Gary Webb, the Pulitzer winner who exposed the 1980’s CIA cocaine pipeline in the San Jose Mercury News and was viciously attacked by critics in government and media competitors. Conroy describes his own challenges in getting his hard-hitting stories published, as his employers knuckled under to pressure from advertisers and political figures. He makes the case for public funding of Newsbud, to insure against interference and censorship. Conroy’s impressive portfolio is online here.
Newsbud’s pre-launch website will be live soon at Newsbud.com Mark your calendars for February 14, Valentine’s Day, when we will launch our Kickstarter campaign with a live-streaming telethon.
