Prof. Falk taught at Ohio State and Princeton, and is an acknowledged expert on human rights and international law. The author of more than 20 books, his latest is Palestine: The Legitimacy of Hope. He is an active blogger.
Ms. Yeshua-Lyth is a veteran Israeli journalist and author, and was Washington correspondent for the daily Maariv. Her memoir is The Case for a Secular Jerusalem and her website is here.
We open with comments on the recent conflict in Jerusalem regarding access to the holy sites, then talk about Jeffrey Goldberg’s recent article in The Atlantic quoting an unnamed White House official calling Prime Minister Netanyahu “chickenshit”. We talk about the events of 2014, focusing on Netanyahu’s manipulation of the case of three Israeli teens who were kidnapped and killed, used as a pretext to round up hundreds of Hamas members and provoke a new war that could be called “self-defense”. We discuss tunnels, “human shields”, and the uneven posture of the Obama administration, criticizing Israel for targeting civilians while approving funds for “Iron Dome”.
There’s much more in this rich interview, including Falk’s view that Israel values Israeli lives more than Palestinian lives.
