Russ Baker, founder of WhoWhatWhy.com and author of Family of Secrets, returns for a wide ranging conversation about the failings of the corporate media and its coverage of the bin Laden raid and other recent events. Will Durst, in a rare burst of self-interest, says “Run, Newt, Run!” The full title of Baker’s book is Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, America’s Invisible Government, and the Hidden History of the Last 50 Years. He draws on that research to comment on the limits of presidential power and the naivete of some Obama voters (as he looks at my Obama “Hope” sticker on the glass door to our secret studio). Baker looks with skepticism on the shifting accounts of the Abbottobad raid, targeted assassination as “justice”, expectations of presidential power, and more. Baker says Obama should have delivered bin Laden to The Hague with other war criminals, and argues that we need some independent verification of bin Laden’s death. We also talk about WikiLeaks and the recent PBS Frontline report on Bradley Manning.
At about 54:22, Will Durst talks trash about Newt Gingrich running for president, which is to say that it’s a gift to comedians.
Peter B. Collins is burdened with too many opinions. He follows news and politics to a degree that one friend calls “borderline obsessive” and the Peter B. Collins Show is his therapy. From San Francisco, he brings you his views and analysis on important national and international issues, and interviews political leaders, journalists, authors and others who know more than he does.
